It s been a barrier to innovation for decades. The inability to control heat is one of the big limits in current nanotechnologies, said Margaret Murnane, a physicist at JILA, a joint research institute between the University of Colorado Boulder and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. [It impacts] future quantum computers, and even the computers in our homes and cars. If you keep your laptop on your lap for an extended period of time while you re working on it, or if you re playing a game on your cell phone for a while, you will quickly find that heat management is very critical in how those devices function, said Joshua Knobloch, a postdoctoral research associate at JILA.Knobloch and Murnane are co-authors of a recent study that may have solved a portion of the heat distribution problem.Typically, hot stanley cup quencher metal objects need space to cool down efficiently. During a hearing on Wednesday, senators sought more clarity from the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the new relaxed mask guidance for fully vaccinated people.Dr. Rochelle Walensky 鈥?who wore a mask Wednesday at the Capitol 鈥?testified before a Senate subcommittee. One of the things I think that s really key in this is to recognize that we are not a homogeneous country, that there are some areas that 鈥?some counties that 鈥?still have less than 20% of people vaccinated, Walensky said. There s some counties that still have greater than 100 per 100,000 cases in a 7-day period of time. And so I actually think as I look at the map of very heterogeneous map of how we re doing with cases, how we re doing with vaccinations. The decisions about whether to take off a mask mandate have to be made at the local level, have to be made at the community level. Under the new CDC recommendations, fully vaccinated people can resume most activities without a mask or social distancing. The White House has used relaxed guidance to encourage people to get their shots.
